    Improvements and Suggestions

*steve*, just letting you know, I havn't forgotten about this (sending you cross ref info). I'm just trying to figure out how to send some of what I have. I need to coordinate with my adult son (living in another State), to do it. I told you, I'm a klutz on the computer. The two most-used...

I work INSIDE the chassis, I'm a klutz on the computer. I don't know what a sticky thread is, or that I could have used it for this purpose. I'll bust one of the kids loose from the Playstation, and maybe they can explain it to me. Thanks, *steve*.

    4-20mA from .5V to 3v

The industry standard in U.S. is 4-20ma 1-5VDC. I'm guessing you believe you need the 3V at 20ma, but you're bucking the entire industry for process control devices. EVERYTHING is made 4-20ma/1-5V, your system won't be compatible with anybody else's (unless this is your own homebrew...

    Improvements and Suggestions

I wasn't suggesting Ian build a comprehensive data base on his own. It would take too much work. At the very least, I was hoping for a category to link to existing cross references available on line (many different sites). That way we could find what we wanted from one central site...

    Headphone Repair Question

Like Resqueline said, you've got a break somewhere in the wire. It's usually at one end or the other of the cable, at the headphone, or at the plug. But it could be anywhere along the length of the wire. I've never run across a problem with the speaker itself, but it's possible, to check...

tv repair not turning on or sometimes

I assume you already checked this, but I'll mention it. Biggest problem I've found on these things lately, is bad power on/off switch itself. Did you use an ohmeter to check continuity of the switch? Just another thing for you to check.

    Improvements and Suggestions

Yes, Ian & MattyMatt, by cross-reference I mean cross references for components from one manufacuter part number to another. I often need them for Hewlett Packard to JEDEC part numbers, or Tektronix to JEDEC, and I also noticed one a while back that somebody mentioned for Philips SMD parts to...

    Improvements and Suggestions

Sounds like an interesting idea to me. (so that's two votes) I've got another idea I've been wondering about: I've run across people with cross references that are very helpful. The 'User Contributed Articles' section doesn't seem to fit (if it does, please let me know). I was wondering if...

    Tracing voltage power supply help

Let's start with the basics. If you're just reading the voltage out of the transformer, it's going to be higher than 5V. You've got three TO-220 type semiconductors bolted to the long silver aluminum heat-sink. they're probably transistors and/or voltage regulators. Your transformer drops...

    DVD disk detection error

It would help if you gave the make and model number of your device. First thing I'd try though, is a DVD cleaning disc.

    Solder Help!!!! PLEASE!!!

Companies like PACE make a vacuum desoldering system (several types), a good one might run you $200 -$300 U.S., but what's the time and effort worth to you.

Rotel RX-203 Receiver: Full working order for HeadPhone Plug, no sound for speakers

Problems I've found in the past, easy things to check first: 1) Headphone jack contacts bent, allowing audio signal to the headphones, but keeping the contacts from returning to 'normal' position to send the signal back to the speakers. 2) Internal speaker fuses to external speakers blown...

Maybe the US government can do something about fake electronic parts

A lot of the parts coming out of China are salvaged from U.S. boards that were sold as scrap. They salvage the parts, clean them up & remark them, turn around and sell them back to the U.S. Businesses in the U.S. go 'low bid'. What the Chinese don't get in scrap, they make cheap copies of...

Panasonic TV that whistles (110V TV that got 220V)

I did that once, in the Philippines also no less. Check all your small caps at the power input circuit. At the very least, you blew some of those open also (beside the Xformer & filter caps).

    Alarm

Sounds to me like your alarm sensor (the fire/smoke detector itself) died. First thing I'd do, is disconnect the sensor, and install a new one.

low frequency signal over coaxial cable

Sheez, I'd be worried about the power losses over that length itself.

    Precious Metals in Scrap?

I don't think very many places use silver anymore (I used to take-off all the silver relay contacts on the old telephone relays here in the States). I still see a lot of VERY finely plated circuit boards, but it's only economical if you do a lot of boards. You're wasting your time trying to...

    Wanted: ICs required

I'd look at the data sheets for the device you want to replace, with the data sheet from the device you're considering replacing it with. The same part CAN simply have different marking if they're from different manufacturers.

AC to transistor in tuner circuit

That's a pretty accurate circuit you'd need, for tuning a guitar. I'd be considering cheating a little on this one. Maybe you could take a look at some schematics of some of the guitar tuners on the market, and see how they're doing this. If you could do that, you'd see what kind of methods...
