    Xmas light string controller

You might find the controller operates using thyristors and chops the AC waveform rather than producing a DC output. Any chance you can show us the insides of the controller?

Newbie needs help identifying correct capacitor replacement

I seem to recognise a distinct 'doming' on the capacitor not marked with a '9' (or '6'). Ahhh, the 'audiophoolery' department...... If the technical specifications are the same there is zero difference other than price - the audio world seem to get away with charging double, treble....x1,000...

New to electronics, making wireless door lock

For simplicity you could use a wireless door bell stripped down for the relevant parts. I suppose the mechanical interface between receiver and lock will be the most complicated part.

    Electronics help

If you take my first paragraph in explanation you should get the principle inferred. The first SENTENCE even.... Then again, I should have used 'equalize' in the second paragraph instead of 'minimise'. But pedantry isn't part of my skill set.

    PSU connector replacement

After consulting Mrs Zoowickies crystal ball she says connect the doohicky colour one to the thingyumybob one....... Seriously.... give us a clue!!!

Vishay resistor query - Red Black Gold Gold?

1% is better than 2% is better than 5% is better than 10% etc If it is, as you say, a current limit for an LED then you can ignore the tolerance all together..... it won't make a blind bit of difference.

    12V Light project

If the board you want to power consumes less than the USB converter can deliver then yes you can use the USB power lead. The details for the lead are not exactly explicit though - it states 'maximum 2A' but not whether that is the input or the output, nor does the panel you want to power show...

Aiwa NSX 999 Mk2 music system, Microcontroller, does it need programming?

What makes you think this is so? Either way the device does have internal memory and the contents are likely to be protected so you won't be able to either read the original nor program it yourself without those details.

Is it possible to etch pre drilled proto board

You can get adhesive-backed copper tape that can be cut into strips and pressed in place to make tracks. A roll of say 1" width tape is only a few $$. Useful for screening circuitry too...

    Solar powered fan

A 1.5W solar panel will only output the stated power in full, direct, sunlight perpendicular to the panel surface and, even then, only if it is from a recommended manufacturer or supplier. No smoothing necessary - the output is pure DC. A motor (fan) will likely be enough load to prevent over...

    Help With Electronic Drumset

As above, the piezo detector is the usual way to go although there are many cheap electronic drum kits out there nowadays that make the project sort of re-inventing the wheel. You might try to be adventurous and make some 'air' drum sticks with velocity detecting sensors that could return...

Newbie needs help identifying correct capacitor replacement

You won't find one rated at 50V in a computer PSU. Fortunately the capacitor you require is commonly available and a decent manufacturer is Nichicon as per this link: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/nichicon/UVZ1H332MHD/493-1347-ND/589088 The key numbers to recognise are...

DC power supply with different V out

Given the low current requirements and short time intervals a simple resistor/zener arrangement would do just as well as anything. Trying to keep it simple here.......

    Electronics help

There can also be issues with timimg at higher frequencies caused by trace length mismatching. This is very obvious if you look carefully at PCBs made for high speed processors - note the 'wavy' trace lengths between CPU and (usually) memory devices. The PCB designers try to keep each trace...

    Help with fence charger schematic

Given the nature of your request it may better serve the wider audience if we discuss any design openly - after all, this is what the forum is about! There are no secrets here (excpet my stash in the back office......oops...)

Vishay resistor query - Red Black Gold Gold?

The tolerance you actually have is better than what you're replacing it with - not highly important but better than a 'worse' tolerance.... so yes, use it.

Vishay resistor query - Red Black Gold Gold?

2Ω 5% - without some comparison for scale it looks like a 1/4 watt device, maybe 1/2 watt. why do you want an 'exact' replacement?
