    PAL vs NTSC?

Hi all, I have a question about the different frequencis. PAL is 25 lines while NTSC is 35. We know across the pond is 60Hz and Europe is mostly 50Hz. Yet NTSC has 500 frames and PAL has 600. PAL is clearly the better quality. UK is PAL!. Hoorah.. but on a serious note, do they share the same...

DVDR 985 not playing the NTSC recorded DVDs

Happy new year to you too. Yes, I am curious and mischievous!!. So far it seems NTSC wont play Pal and vice versa. So frequency is definitely a given. Also firmware plays it’s part too. But I doubt that’s your problem. See how you get on cleaning the lens/s first. I am now intrigued whether you...

DVDR 985 not playing the NTSC recorded DVDs

Yes, and also a ‘virgin’ disc. Even cheap media can be an issue. Martin

DVDR 985 not playing the NTSC recorded DVDs

No, not always. Especially if your unit has two lasers. The focus could need adjusting or the laser power. Different types of laser and frequency are found in some multi-format-player units. My sons DVD blu ray player wont read CD-R with audio files. It used to. He doesn’t care because he...

isolating transformer and variac - what order?

Mine has the transformer first. It is earthed but through the front large switch I can float. I use the back output for my series bulb current limiter. Works like a charm. Martin

DVDR 985 not playing the NTSC recorded DVDs

Oh ok. If it played previously then a problem has arisen. The first thing I would do is clean the laser lens with a cotton bud. If this doesn’t work, there may be an adjustment on the laser mechanism itself. Martin

DVDR 985 not playing the NTSC recorded DVDs

Hi Tom, when you have a DVD that DOES play, do you get the menu that says ‘Pal’? I just read a little on your player and it requires a true NTSC signal. What this means isn’t exactly very clear. Martin

Need parts to repair USB ports on XBox 360

The USB metal enclosure is designed for microsoft. I doubt you will find any with the same size metal housing. You can of course replace them with standard USB replacements as linked to by @davenn but they will have a smaller metal profile/housing. Buy a broken xbox board from Ebay if you want...

Speaker wiring came loose. Need help with connections

It looks or at least seems like a white jumper wire is missing. These are all parallel wired so the top right speakon white wire ‘should’ connect to the tip of the 1/4” jack (highest) point with solder on it along with the white wire to the right of the picture. Otherwise this jack wont be...

    Have a little fun...

I have to admit that I am still confused on the memory logic. 24 combinations?. The deeper I delve the more complex it becomes. I am sure it’s easy when we know HOW!! But it definitely has to do with the switches. Left, right, first on and last off and timing of switches etc tell the controller...

    Have a little fun...

Here is a paragraph from (martinsmagic dot com) This is truly one of the few electronic items I will work with these days and works perfectly every time. It does take a little more memory work than the Wellington one, but not by much and after a few rounds you’ll quickly get used to it. Martin

    Have a little fun...

That’s correct John, from what I was reading this morning, it depends what switch and direction (left to right or right to left) determines the controller output sequence. I couldn’t find anything specific online about this particular box but did find quite a few pages on the ‘Wellington’ light...

TECHNICS RS-DC10 DCC TAPE DECK. NO PLAYBACK

To be honest, I have no idea. But more than likely. I find it very difficult to post links with my phone but have a look on Youtube for Dr DCC. He and a friend have lots of videos servicing DCC players of different manufacturers. I was watching some last night. He services your unit in one of...

    Have a little fun...

It’s all done with a microcontroller hidden in the battery holder. The code is written to remember sequences. The ‘magic’ is the user has to remember those sequences and a time delay for a reset. Martin
