    Current detection

I think Steve means more turns of the live wire. This will drop the voltage and increase the available current. Adam

    Question for site manager

Yep I second that Kris. I have tried many other forums and I always end up coming back here. This is the only forum I use now, even when it's quiet I don't bother with any others. You will get heated discussions from time to time, these are good and bring in knowledge from all parties. The...

    Voltage drop across diodes

No your right. The voltage drop across a diode is dependant of the current through the diode. There is a misconception that a diode will always have a 0.6-0.7 volt drop across it, the volt drop is dependant on current. Adam

    Voltage drop across diodes

The reverse current of one diode will be the forward current of the other. Does this make sense? Adam

Advice needed on ir diode sensor

Lol. Yep not very reflective then. I would stick to what you have. Adam

Advice needed on ir diode sensor

It depends on how reflective the fish are. I have never given this any thought before but fish scales reflect light so its possible. Why do you want to change it? You will have to try it to see how it compares. Adam

    Voltage drop across diodes

Why do you think the reverse current is zero? What do you think (Is) is? Adam

    Voltage drop across diodes

Nope still not working Dan, but thanks for posting it. Adam

I would love to see some pictures of both the cutter and any results you have. What materials have you tried? Adam

Help figuring out this switching driver.

You have to choose an opamp who's input extends to 0V so yes you should be able to. Don't just take my design and hope it will work with other components. You will have to make sure they are all compatible. My design was a guide to get you going and to show one way it could be done. Adam

Help figuring out this switching driver.

No as I said I just used a regulator I found in the library. The opamp and associated components are the add on. Thanks Adam

Is there a MOSFET that turns OFF when voltage is applied to gate?

Found these if it's of any interest. I might be a bit late here? http://www.ixyspower.com/images/literature/PB5001000D.pdf Adam

transformers back to back - why won't work?

Well it makes sense that if a certain magnetic flux is produced when 220 V a.c is applied to the primary of the transformer which produces 18 V a.c then if you reverse it then it should produce the same. Does it? Well not far off. But one thing that will be different is the inrush current...

    Assistance with Transistor Theory

I have never been very good at explaining things but what about this analogy. Imagine a river bank with people on both sides. With no base voltage the river is to wide to cross. So when we apply a base voltage the river bank shrinks and people can jump across. But the people are running all...

    Varistor+Diodes as transient suppressor

Hello My advice would be to use one transient suppressor only. These diodes are they for the fly-back / back emf from the pump? I often see multiple devices in parallel and in my opinion they serve one purpose, only to carry on after the first one has died. Then the inevitable happens and the...

Help figuring out this switching driver.

Hello Ok so here is the basic idea I was thinking of. Use the voltage developed across a sense resistor (R1) to control the feedback control. The circuit here is one I added the CC control part to a device from the LT spice library. It had all I needed apart from 3 A current rating. Trying to...
