    Data Encoder(Alps)

'Dual' just refers to the fact that here are two potentiometers operated by the same shaft - you can tell this by the two sets of three terminals of each pot. Potentiometers have 'laws' where linear (suffix B) means the resistance is directly proportional to the position of the wiper on the...

    switch or patch

The 'old' method has already been electronified and is known as a cross-point switch - most commonly used in telephone systems but also in video/audio production systems.

    Creationism/Intelligent Design

I've seen TV shows that recalled past predictions for the future and how ridiculous some of the then-future-looking ideas became.... but there's no getting away from the (worrying?) exponential increase in technological capabilites that we are seeing. If you are an avid modern-day sci-fi reader...

    Current Operated Relay

The LEDs can be connected across the 110V AC (with diode and suitable resistor of course) and the whole arrangement would have another resistor across it to develop the load you require. Each leg of the LED arrangement will consume 20mA so for circuit 1 your load will already be 60mA. For...

What does your workshop / workbench look like?

Here's my workshop in its early stages of construction - picture the table tops and floors covered with building materials, wood working tools, chainsaw etc and you'll be 'about there' for its current appearance :p Let's be generous and call it 'a work in progress'....:D One daft thing I did...

    Creationism/Intelligent Design

I wanted to start this thread in the Twighlight Zone for the obvious reasons - and suggest it's put there anyway - but just for the sake of time-wasting discussion...... Leaving the religious aspect out of it - being of sound mind and questioning body I refuse to be drawn into theological...

    Data Encoder(Alps)

Why did your thread indicate the need for encoders when you now say you need 'volume pots'??? They look like standard dual-gang potentiometers, 10kΩ log - can we see the reverse of the board? Anyway, they are available from many sources. You need to measure the diameter of the splined shaft...

    Current Operated Relay

5mm LEDs require around 20mA to operate. Circuit 1 will draw 60mA assuming you have the correct dropper resistors fitted. Circuit 2 will draw 60mA with all LEDs lit. To run them from AC you will require a diode (reverse biased) across each LED too. Circuit 2 won't work (well L7 and L8 won't...

    Human safety system in drainage

Confined space Gas Detectors are commonly available and generally a legal requirement in societies that take Health & Safety issues seriously. https://www.safetygearstore.co.uk/confined-space-gas-detectors The above link is but one of many sources that exist. You will be re-inventing the...

    Data Encoder(Alps)

Depends on whether you're concerned over 'originality' of the equipment i.e. keeping its provenance. But if all you want is for it to work then any incremental, mechanical, encoder with the correct number of steps and matching bushing/shaft arrangement will work. But to obtain one that has the...

    Legality of non-amateur band receivers

The AM receiving license was abolished in the UK decades ago. Here in the UK (YMMV) you can listen to whatever you want - I mean, how can they tell???? The 'legal' stuff states that "you're not allowed to act on information received as part of that listening" - or words to that effect. In...

    Help with HD PCB part

If you've already swapped the controller board and it didn't work then there's something wrong with the hardware i.e. disk/heads.

    Help with HD PCB part

If that part has 'blown' then it points to the power plug being incorrectly (forcibly) fitted - in reverse! Putting 5V where the 12V is meant to be isn't harmful but putting 12V where the 5V is meant to go.......... Good luck!

RC Locomotive Horn fitted to Jaguar XF

The OP probably taking 'inspiration' from a couple of retarded dudes on Youtube who go around sneaking up on unsuspecting members of the public and blasting their train horn at them..... I wonder who'll be the first to sue the OP for the medical conditions instigated from being on the receiving...

Wiring Custom Backup Alarm For My Truck [PICTURES]

    1. The amplifier you have is a two-channel device (i.e. stereo) but you are only using one channel. Yes, cut the 3.5mm plug off and connect the wires to either the green or the black pairs. Assuming the white stripe means +ve then match the white striped wire from the speaker to the white...

    Help with HD PCB part

The original thread has the right solution - swap the part from the good board to the bad board.
