Help needed creating a toy train project

The KISS principle applies here (Keep It Simple, Stupid). By far the mechanical construction will take most of the time and effort. Being a simple DC motor, forward/reverse is very simple to achieve using a DPDT switch. Using a simple 'limit switch' arrangement (microswitches front and rear)...

    Processor 80286 _ Application errors_urgently help needed!

A COM Port is obviously enabled - is it connected? Is the device connected to it working?

    OP-amp help

Providing you identify the SIGNAL wire then yes, you cut that wire and send the signal into your comparator circuit and take the output from the comparator back to the free end of the cut wire. Ground is 'common' to all the circuits and is the chassis of the vehicle too.

CNC Plotter with DVD stepper motors

The output voltages are far too low. Fit 10k pull-up resistors between ALL the Data pin outputs and the +5V rail (8 resistors needed).

Help needed creating a toy train project

Do you know the weight of the finished train (approximately) and whether or not it will be pulling any carriages? The easiest obtainable motors would be something like a car windscreen wiper motor or electric window motor - both would have the gearbox requirement already fitted and enough...

CNC Plotter with DVD stepper motors

If you change the 'polarity' of the wiring to only one of the stepper coils you might get the motor to work. Changing the wiring to both coils just reverses the original problem. A stepper motor requires a specific bit pattern sequence to be sent to the coils in order for it to rotate - Use...

    LED strips for vanity/accent lighting?

It might not affect the total lumen output measurement as a numerical figure but it certainly shows itself in a subjective way! A 100lumen source could be a radiant device with TOTAL spherical coverage or one with a very narrow beam (still its total output though) but the narrow beam one will...

Are the 12/24V supplies on a common ground circuit? Do they need to be?

CNC Plotter with DVD stepper motors

Did you check the motor pin out? Does it match the L293 outputs? Assuming the motors are correctly wired you need to measure the step signal outputs ot ensure they are both 'therre' and in the correct sequence. Use a ttest meter to measure the step signals for individual step movements.

    Connector type

Sorry, I can't help with your request but full marks for the clearest pictures I've ever seen on this forum. We should 'pin' this post as an example of how it SHOULD be done.....<thumbs up>

CNC Plotter with DVD stepper motors

In what way? Not moving? Missing steps? Too many steps? I don't see any decoupling capacitors on the devices or supply lines either.

linear actuator controller, manual or automatic

Have a look at the simple Radio Controllers servo motor. This is a motorised linkage device whose position is set by the width of a pulse (1mS to 2mS IIRC). You could make a simple 555 astable with one of the timing elements a thermistor and, with the correct choice of timing capacitor and...

    OP-amp help

I think you misunderstand the true meaning of 'AC' - the signal is actually DC with an AC component. Irrespective of this either the op-amp or comparator circuits will do as you require. Personally I'd go for the comparator solution. Can you measure the voltage at points 'V' and 'S' with...

    LED strips for vanity/accent lighting?

And thereby lies the rub. 'bulbs' and 'strips' are apples and pears and can't be directly compared. Indeed, different bulbs (shapes) will have different illumination qualities and light output is only relevant, as I tried to make out, when comparing like-for-like. This has always been the...

    Stepper motor control

Quoted from the Arduino site: "The microcontroller on the Arduino and Genuino AVR based board has EEPROM: memory whose values are kept when the board is turned off (like a tiny hard drive). This library enables you to read and write those bytes." But for a simple positional control actuator...

12 V motor loss of power

"no speed control"? - contrary to all the PWM speed controllers that currently exist? "big electrolytic input capacitor"? - not specifically? and why would this be a problem? Regardless.... personally I'd change the system to a stepper with LCD readout and programmability in a move towards...

So would I.... but we can't really expect a professional schematic for such a cheap'n'cheerful device. It serves the purpose - to those that have the basic concepts of schematic reading...
