Clean square waves using a 555 timer?

Xeno, one other thing, it's not 50% duty cycle, for that you require a diode, on Android look for electrodroid to do the calculation for you...

    Stability of voltage regulators

However, we're talking about a linear reg, if that starts outputing > 15v something failed in which case the capacitor is least of your worries...

    Question about Li-ion batteries

I've been able to pull 20/ah from the cheapest of lithium batteries probably up to 100a/h from a good 18650 battery from samsung/sony/panasonic etc The ebay ones that claim 9000mah is total bs, maybe just maybe 800 - 1200 for anything less than $10 US

    Stability of voltage regulators

Look, if this is powering a $$$ system then sure, a 19 - 24v is better than 16v but i kinda presumed it's not... As for professionals, absolutely they do, the amount of caps from samsung, acer who use 22v caps on 20v so many it's not funny and then i agree with you completely ... But is this a...

    Stability of voltage regulators

Why not? 16v cap is fine for a 15v supply... it's done all the time, will it last as long? Prob not but that was not the question

    Stability of voltage regulators

If it's a linear, it will only output 15v max so it's safe, just keep an eye on the cap make sure it's not getting too warm I have a 16v on a 19v feed (but with a constant load most of the time lol) works fine

    Touch switch for heating element

What's it currently using? A switch? chances are the switch is not carrying the current it merely switches on a triac ir relay and that carries the high voltage/current If so then yes, a capacitive button could trigger it...
