Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

In the photo above the cathode ends of the diodes are pointing to the negative afaik. Am I wrong? The 894 reading is the reading over the 2 combined diodes

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

St Edd With regard to the meters power supply, this is what I've done: With bridge rectifier attached I get about 9V AC and 8V DC. Specs of meter say it can use a supply of 4.5 -24V DC. However when I connect the meter up it doesn't light up. Power it with a 9V battery and it lights up fine.

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks for dropping by St Edd. And thanks for clarifying the cable business. Will post about that later. With negative lead connected to neg of big cap C1 I read -13V on connected legs of R3 and D7. Difficult to find a common point

    Please check this for me

Wouldn't a more normal place for the power on led be at the power plug inlet to the board with the appropriate resistor

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Hi Audioguru Busy fixing 2 disastrous shorts (Have ordered insulated probes a la o/scope.) After repair ended up with 31V on pin 4 of U3. After replacing D5,D6,2 x D7,C2,C3 and R3 I have got -13.3V on pin 4 (U3 removed) That only leaves R2, as an 82Ω 5W I very much doubt it can fail, reads about...

    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

Just a thought. Have you got speakers hooked up to FR and FL. ? Would the Denon push signal through to those speaker outs if no speakers connected.

Have you checked voltages on the IC, pins 6 & 7 Va and Vd?

    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

When you get back to TR16/TR17: pg 105/196. There are two connectors on the left hand side of board. Look to the right in line with the top of the top (bigger) connector. Second set of components along that line is TR16/TR17

    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

This intermittent business worries me. I saw on some forum somebody with a Denon had to plug/unplug a connection 3 or 4 times with a clean after every unplug before it started connecting reliably. Could a bad connection somewhere be triggering a protection circuit, of which the Denon apparently...

Oscilloscopes - which is right for what?

Well, you could take the board out, solder some breakout leads to the points you want to check, plug board back in and start hooking up your scope and testing

Oscilloscopes - which is right for what?

Please correct me if I am wrong but at this stage you are just looking for signs of life at certain points along the digital path. What it looks like is unimportant at this stage. Analysis is not required at this stage and a whole new ball game.

    Samsung Syncmaster 740BF repair

Replaced the DMO565R and set still dead, pilot light doesn't even come on. I want to check some voltages on the board, always nervous when working on a live board powered by mains. My question is, where can I connect my negative probe?, Actually want to solder a lead on there so I can check one...
