I'm a Carpenter, not an Electrical Engineer

Archaic hell! When I get an itch to do late night wood working my neighbors appreciate that I feel a kinship with Roy Underhill. :p And yeah, I have a Drawknife or two or maybe three. A Fro too! Chris

I need to hire someone for a logic design

Bob, I thought it was automatic, which is why I couldn't make any sense of it. Then I watched the video. DUH! Chris

I'm a Carpenter, not an Electrical Engineer

YES! Throw in about 5 Spoke-Shaves too! While we're at it at least one Lathe is a must. Spring Pole, Treadle, Peddle or Engine is OK. :) The concept is simple and basic. You continually add stuff to your shop until you no longer have room to work! Chris

    oscillator help

Colin, I'm surprised that no one has bit the hook, so I guess I'll be the first to give it a go. As I see it the effective capacitance across the coil is approximately the series equivalent of C2 & C3. This is because you totally missed the fact that the Vcc rail is bypassed and therefore at...

    oscillator help

Colin, I've been busting your chops for quite some time now but I must admit that my harassment had nothing to do with breaking you out of your 10 word maximum post rule. Though I didn't find anything in your post that gave me pause I don't think it would matter if there was. The fact that...

USB signal generator device to stop the screen saver

IMHO a hardware approach falls into the back door category. This issue should be tackled with a software approach. Chris

    Appropriate diode fo my circuit

For crystal radio enthusiasts the venerable 1N34 still reins King today. Before I moved to EP I was a very active member of AAC. In a thread discussing its characteristics there was an inexplicable dispute regarding its forward voltage drop that I knew to be =<300mV which is typical of...

    Appropriate diode fo my circuit

I like the name Tony. Tony's usually like Pizza. I like Pizza. I usually don't like people that don't like Pizza. I used to be normal but exposure to Marty has been deleterious to my brain! :p FYI and I realize that this is off topic but just about any silicon diode would be acceptable in your...

I need to hire someone for a logic design

Hey Hop, I read this twice. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_diver Later, I'm going to a Christmas party at the hospital I used to contract for. I'm going to drink copiously and read it again. I think my reading comprehension will increase exponentially by then. Wish me luck! :p Chris

What component does this symbol represent?

Just so there's no ambiguity I'm not referring to the symbol you posted as it does not indicate a Cathode terminal. I'm referring to this... Chris

What component does this symbol represent?

In the "old days" Diodes were commonly drawn within a circle but so were Transistors. It was most probably accepted that way because we were transitioning from Vacuum (Valves) Tubes. Every now and then I come across some of my schematics drawn between the 60's & 70's. Diodes and Transistors...

    Automobile charging circuit light circuit

Yes I modeled it but your print didn't spec the 12V Zener so I used a 1N2810. The DC analysis produced a curve that indicated that the LED would be completely off when the battery voltage was only 7V! Zener characteristics can vary greatly over Zeners rated at the same voltage. Some Zeners...

One thing for certain.. If the simulator in Transit Analysis provides options of (1) Calculate Operating Point, (2) Use Initial Conditions. (3) Zero Initial Values. I now always choose 2 or 3. Never 1. Chris

    Automobile charging circuit light circuit

It may seem that way because I apparently missed your request for a 6V version of your posted circuit. That aside try replacing the 12V Zener with a 6.8V Zener like a 1N2804. Then replace the two 1N7003's with a wire jumper. Chris

    Automobile charging circuit light circuit

First off I will tell you that I spiced your circuit. To get it to work at all you will need a variable resistor connected between Q1 base and GND. Even then this circuit could be replaced with a comparator with far better stability over temperature. A 555 can be used as a comparator by jumping...

    Delayed buzzer for Motorbike

You have the dubious distinction of being the only nubie that ever did that! If you believe that I'll tell you another bald faced lie. That said this might be an advantageous opportunity to find out why nubes do that. Care to share what your reasoning or lack of it was? Chris

    Video Switcher

I don't want to derail this thread but something has been bugging me since Hop corrected me regarding Composite Video vs RGB. I have no idea why I posted what I did! I've installed well over a hundred CCTV security cameras, all of which employed composite video output via BNC connectors over...

    oscillator help

This is why I'm loving this thread. It's a pecking frenzy! Whether the OP is comprehending any of it is debatable but I think it's highly unlikely. The following are my personal Murphy rules regarding nubes and RF circuitry: (1) If a nubie is building an oscillator it probably won't. (2) Spice...
