    Garmin GPS120

Not very good I'm afraid: https://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2016/01/new-sea-floor-map-google-earth.html Timothy Whitehead says: February 1, 2017 at 1:28 pm You can often see imagery further offshore when in ‘historical imagery’ mode. However, it is overhead imagery and not imagery of...

    Garmin GPS120

Tried google maps on my phone, cant see seabed. Extremely difficult finding a reef 5 miles out using a bottom scanning fish finder. That's why undersea map is paramount.

Thanks kellys_eye, interesting alternative. Now would that run a (say Garmin) marine map or do you run something akin to openstreetmaps?. Don't know if you get a marine version

    Garmin GPS120

Ah Ok thanks Tha fios agaibh. Agreed. Boat owner has since bought a small handheld marine gps. Works fine but small screen a pain. So will just be a bonus if I can get 120 going with it's bigger screen and separate more accurate gps antenna

I love the British sense of humour kellys_eye but your comment has me stumped. Marine gps?

    Garmin GPS120

Thanks Alec_t. Definitely a one piece. I have got the one end lifted slightly and the pins soldered to the board stay put. So it looks like it like the connector slides onto pins, so I just have to break the rust (just heh heh)

Friend of mine's marine gps died by being attacked by it's nemesis: sea water. I said I'd try and revive it ( Not much hope methinks) One power cable has rusted off so I'd like to replace the cabling, but to do that I have to get into the multi connector on the pcb. The question is, how do I...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Display looks like this: Is it led? When you say balanced charger do the 2 batteries have to have the same voltage ?

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Ah! I found the instructions online: is it ok to use the shared power supply for the time being? I know it causes a lot of interference but it will help for the time being until I can figure out seperate supply Just thinking aloud now: 2 x 18650's in series will give about 9V. I assume this...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks Audioguru I'll play around with the meter to see if I can get it to work. Is it safe to turn the supply on with no load attached if the V and A pots are turned right down?

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Now that I am starting to assemble again in the hopes of switching on some time I need to sort sort this out so I can see what's going on when I switch on. This is a photo of my display: And this is a photo of paulv's display: Thick and thin wires transposed.o_O Now my reasoning says the 2...

Thanks Audioguru Do you mean 100Ω 12 or 15W resistors? Wowser! Have you seen the price of those babies: https://za.rs-online.com/web/c/?sra=oss&r=t&searchTerm=res+100+ohm+12W How about connecting a 12V 25W soldering iron?

How would a load of 5W resistors totalling 7.5kΩ do? Got some housekeeping first eg R12/C6

    Cookin' with Gas! pin 3 U3 = 0 - 2.37V Pin 6 U2 = 0 - 34.5V R7 is 0.47Ω Just noticed that R2 has also joined the exclusive hot resistor club with R1

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks Audioguru Sorry. bit of dyslexia there pin 2 = 0.013V pin 3 = 0.0.17V The pin 2 and 3 readings of 0.8V are actually for U2 So the neg reading on pin 5 is OK?

"Maybe your bridge rectifier diodes are connected wrong?" Been doing a lot of checking and your comment above made me relook that area. I noticed that I did not have the R2 line connected to Neutral, so I ran a lead from N on the bridge rectifier to R2. These are the readings I am getting on...

    LED Dimmer suited for task?

Thanks guys. hmmmm, hope you are guys:eek: Yeah, bought the dimmer and the light from an electronics crowd, actually the guys who wound a toroidal for me, if they couldn't give me the right thing I don't see much hope, looking at the run of the mill showroom/over the counter salesman. At least...

    LED Dimmer suited for task?

Thanks kellys_eye. Had to go and google X2 cap- had never heard of it. This is what my preferred supplier has: https://www.mantech.co.za/Stock.aspx?Query=0.33uf+x2+capsand I see the highest they have is 275V. Will that do or do I need 400V? Also never dealt with opto couplers and when the...
