    I think that if all our senior members answered this question they would unanimously agree that you don't need any sort of regulation for a miter saw.     I just realized that asking you if it's a universal motor was lame. There's no way a battery power tool would be efficient in a universal winding because the battery would have to power the field as well as the armature. It's most probably a permanent magnet motor. Chris
