Inverter That Produces a Sine Wave

Just to make sure you grasp what Steve posted I'm going to state it in other terms.. If you couple a sine wave that does not cross zero (go negative) into a cap the output side of the cap will swing positive & negative. Stated another way... When capacitively coupling Pulsating DC .. true AC...

    Building a Dummy Load Box

Some of this makes little sense to me. (1) If it's only DC that's being carried why does it use UHF connectors, which would also dictate coax cable as the transmission line? (2) 80R is an oddball load impedance. 75R is standard for TV, CCTV & data cable. 50R is standard for radio...

    Lost amateur :)

Actually, I started out being on the shrink wrap, polymer, potting side of the fence but even if the bat and circuit can be encapsulated or shrink wrapped the Piezo can't be. Chris

    Anyone Else Read This?

Please feel free to believe whatever you like. There are many careers that women can perform equal to or better than a man. Jan Alexson did not need or use affirmative action. She's brilliant on her own accord. This fact does not change the political climate of this issue though. Sex, race...

    Anyone Else Read This?

Oops! I guess you're not destined to achieve tenure here. Since this individual seems to have emotional issues the following tip will not be of any use to him. For all other young men please read this scenario. The scene is a science fair competition. There are well over 100 junior...

There's nothing in your profile to give me a clue. Do you understand why I asked what seemed to be an irrelevant and ridiculous question? Chris

    Anyone Else Read This?

Just so there's no misinterpretation. I was referring to the author's human interest, as apposed to the scientific approach to the article. I guess I've become too accustomed to technical details & linked references as found at Wikipedia. Yeah, I know it's too much to ask..:D Chris

You have to read all the way down to the sentence prior to the last to get any meaningful data.... and even then it's meager. . http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/this-could-be-big-abc-news/teen-invents-flashlight-could-change-world-182121097.html?vp=1 Chris

    low frequency response of transistors

Harald, no argument there. Spice is a tool and like any tool it's only as good as the hands that holds it. ;) Chris

    low frequency response of transistors

While I don't disagree with the views of the role Spice should play I can't help but feel that seasoned engineers (you old farts :p) have a pony in this race. Humans instinctively devalue any technology that threatens to replace them. The old world master carpenter who used nothing more than his...

    low frequency response of transistors

I really do have to spend more time in this section of the forum. Lots of esoteric but absolutely necessary subject matter for engineers. Sorry to hear that you failed the exam, as you do seem to be a genuinely studying the subject matter. On the up side you have Spice at your fingertips...

    power transfer to load

You may want to take a peek at this thread. It's only 3 posts deep. Post 3 contains a Maximum Power Transfer plot. https://www.electronicspoint.com/getting-my-head-around-resistance-t249786.html Chris

Is AC Theory Getting You Down?

I stumbled upon this site that contains a nice animated graphic of the relationship between a Sine-wave and a circle. It may be useful for students. http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/trigonometry.html Chris

My Cousin Vinny (Run capacitors and motor direction)

Hey, I just noticed that the mods edited the title to be more descriptive. Thanks, that's much better! Chris

My Cousin Vinny (Run capacitors and motor direction)

I will admit that I don't have as much experience with cap run motors as I do with cap start versions. On those the motor direction is governed by the start winding. That said, my cousin replaced the cap and all is well. I would call that confirmable results. Chris

My Cousin Vinny (Run capacitors and motor direction)

OK, this thread has been resolved. My cousin replaced the cap after finding this description of a PSC Motor described in the last paragraph. One last note here. On my lathe & machinist groups cap start motor questions pop up all the time. These are vintage machine groups so the owners are...

My Cousin Vinny (Run capacitors and motor direction)

Well I guess this thread was really a desire for conformation of what I already surmised. I told Vinny from the get go that I couldn't imagine anything other than the cap causing this. I'm still surprised that he says it doesn't run hot though. When the run cap on my air handler shorted I...

My Cousin Vinny (Run capacitors and motor direction)

This is the kind of stuff I love. Check out this statement... "But a faulty capacitor does not cause the fan to run backwards. the running backwards is a symptom of having a faulty capacitor." It's statements like that that make me appreciate alcohol even more! Or maybe the alcohol is my...
