    LC meter accuracy

It's my opinion that any cap, inductance, or R instruments intended to read very low values cannot have test leads and or alligator clips. They introduce far to much error when reading low values. Low values require direct and solid connections to absolutely stationary test points. The fact that...

    variable motor speed with override

A Mini Mill doesn't need Mega HP to traverse the table. I have members of my SB Lathe groups that have used automobile window motors to motorize the cross feed on models that were manual. I think Tublacane made a video using one but it drove the carriage lead screw. Either way the motor in your...

turn off circuit at low voltage

Yeah, a short bike ride and two measly beers. I come back and it's all sorted out by our resident tech writer! Stellar job Kris. Chris

    Photointerrupter latching encoder?

Ha, I'm glad you caught that because I certainly didn't. I honestly didn't grasp the pictorial. I should have focused more on BL's description. Chris

    BT150 Thyristor equivalent(BT151) has just exploded !!!

Ed, I can be intolerant at times. Not something to be proud of. Thanks for taking the time to goose me back to realizing why I'm here in the first place. EB, I'm sincerely sorry that I barked at you. You seem like a good kid who's receptive to learn. You didn't deserve that. Yes, I'll read...

Why I want my old world back!

Back when a young Mel Gibson stared in Mad Max and Kurt Russel played Snake Blitskin in Escape From New York I thought how absured these futuristic views of gloom and doom are. Well, it's actually happening...

turn off circuit at low voltage

Can't answer any of these questions right now. It's Wednesday! If Harald hasn't replied by the time I get back I will. Chris

I'm sorry I'm cranky but glad you learned a few things. Please be specific and complete with the next member helping you. Cheers. Chris

Why I want my old world back!

It's amazing that Swamp People & Duck Dynasty are as popular as they are. It indicates that there are a lot more of us out there that long for the basics of life, when Men were Men and Women were Women. Current PC dictates that men should be more like women and women more like men. No, I...

    variable motor speed with override

What will the motor be controlling? If this is some sort of CNC application then we should be looking at Servo or Stepper motors. Also you indicate that power will be sourced from an old computer power supply . What computer do you have that's going to deliver 20A? A main-frame.? Chris

    BT150 Thyristor equivalent(BT151) has just exploded !!!

I said I was bailing from this topic but I can't seem to keep my mouth shut. Here's the situation. (1) It took forever to get a photo from the OP. (2) Nowhere in this thread were we made aware that the controller was an after-market add on. I believed that this was an existing...

    variable motor speed with override

That's a DC motor that will lend itself well to PWM. Inexpensive PWM boards are all over Ebay. More motors.. http://www.mpja.com/DC-Motors/products/100/ Chris

    Variable current limited Power Supply

After giving this a bit more thought I made a few mods to my circuit and added notes. I realized that I used component ID's that are already in use on the scorpiuscl's original circuit. I also raised the value of Rb because it doesn't need to be as low as 1K. Chris

    Photointerrupter latching encoder?

Yes, but the larger it is the longer the Transient Time will be. I don't think total Rpullup should exceed 10K and even that is pushing it when high speed is required. Chris

    Super 8 Projector Modification Project

We have some photography experts here so I'm hoping they will opine on this topic. In the interim I found this.. http://www.wikihow.com/Transfer-8mm-Films-to-Video which, with my limited photo expertise sounds logical. The article gives me the impression that only a small speed variation is...

    Super 8 Projector Modification Project

That's a Shaded Pole Motor. They derive their RPM rating from the Mains frequency. In other words their speed is not governed by voltage. Reducing the voltage will only reduce its torque. Chris

    variable motor speed with override

I converted it for you but I have a lot of questions. Burned out right now, so I'll get back to you. Answer this though.. What type of motor it this? I just bailed out of another motor control thread because information was to damn sparse. I don't want a re-run of that here. Please post the...

I have no idea how you figure that but you seem to have a good grip on this topic so I'm going to leave you two to work things out . Chris
