    Since you're wisely not going to attempt the modifications that you posted on your schematic this is just for the record. It wouldn't work at all as drawn because there's no Drain resistor, thus no DC path from Vdd to the Drain. Chris Edit: I'm referring to T2.

    You can use any of the 1N400x series diodes. The 1N4001 and 1N4002 are extremely common and dirt (pennies) cheap. The Anodes should be connected to the 4017. Just make sure you heed to what Steve said. Chris

    The data sheet specs the operating current at 45uA (Typical) @ Vdd = 5.5V with no load on the output pin. They don't provide a graph of operating current at other voltages, so we can only guess what it would be. There is a work around but it's low grade because it'll force you to insure that the...
