    diode for collapsing magnetic field

My only point was that the manufacturer expected that switch to survive without BEMF protection. Electrician's supression scheme looks like this. His current wasn't 20 - 30A though. The value of snubber C1 and R1 changes with current draw.

Simple 12v power on/off with non latch button?

It's 0124 hrs and I'm going to hit the sack with that stuck in my head. I hope I don't wake up my bride because I'm having difficulty with uncontrollable laughter. If you come across a parody for "The Wind Beneath My Wings" let me know. :D Oldie but a goody.. Google "Cows With Guns". A friend...

Simple 12v power on/off with non latch button?

We are the world... We are the children.... Ehhh, I never liked that tune. Too sophomoric. Chris

    Wind Generator

If you use LED lighting, as suggested by CC, it greatly simplifies your requirements and drastically reduces your power demands. I would think that solar cells alone would be capable of putting enough charge in your battery to maintain intermittent lighting duty throughout the night. I would...

LED strobe circuit needs more current

I guess CC joined with that handle and you had an avatar that needed a home with a good fit. Chris

    Motorcycle Flasher Issue

Sorry that those mods didn't help. Perhaps a photo of the board and the interconnects to the bike might help. I think ignition noise is getting in there. It can be very severe and difficult to eliminate. Wire length, grounding points, decoupling cap lead length, all can play a part here. Spark...

    Beards and Hurricanes

Wow, that just about confirms what I said about home brew vs off the shelf. It was dark brown in the beginning. What the hell happened??  Chris

LED strobe circuit needs more current

It keeps my face warm. I like the idea too. I think it was Dave, Harold or Steve that said CC doesn't really look like a vending machine. :D Chris

    Hurricane help

I really must get into the 21st century. I didn't know that! Do they actually drive an electromagnetic speaker? Chris

    Hurricane help

This is a bad time to be thinking about hurricane preparedness. Replacing D cells with A, or worst yet, AA cells is not going to power the radio very long. Chris Hurricane Veteran Time In Grade: ///////////

    Simple Analog Delay Circuit

Yeah, it's a brave new world. At one time home brew was nearly always cheaper. Not so today. Chris

    Wind Generator

Reality is that any alternative (green) home energy schemes will not be viable without batteries included in the system. Most of these systems are devoted to keeping the batteries charged. Chris

LED strobe circuit needs more current

I think you'd be far better of with a 555TLC. Frequency and pulse width are more easily manipulated. The LED load will also not effect these values. One thing though.. As Kris asked, where are you getting a 5V battery? Chris

    Motorcycle Flasher Issue

Yes, it's big time overkill for your needs. Your 350mA load would have been best handled with a small power MOSFET. My second choice would have been a TIP120 Darlington. Chris

    Motorcycle Flasher Issue

Yes, a 330 Ohm should put you close enough to the ball park. I suspect you will see an increase in the LEDs brightness too. By the way, to give you an idea of how different a 3055 is from a common small signal switching transistor, the 3055 has a max base current of 7A! No, that's not a typo. ;)...

    Motorcycle Flasher Issue

See attachment for addition of noise filtering. I also recommend that you lower R2 as shown. Even this value is high for a 3055 but it ultimately depends on what the LED current is in the collector circuit. The general rule of thumb when saturating a transistor is that the Base current should be...

    Motorcycle Flasher Issue

Before we go there, what's the specs on the converter? 6-12V converter doesn't tell us much. What's the min-max input range, max output current, input current demands? Do you have a link to it? EDIT: Did you measure the bike's 6V line while the bike was running? Also, while a DMM is slow, you...

    Who Is This?

I mean that naked face. Don't you have laws against that in NZ? Ya have to put some clothes on it or it'll catch a cold! :p I haven't seen my face naked in 38 years. I think I'd scare myself! ;) Kidding aside, I think I like the self pix concept. I'm considering same. Chris

    Basic Electrical Work

That's my point. I don't see the purpose for either diode connected to the regulator. The gnd pin diode, when properly wired, will raise the reg output +0.7V but why? This still doesn't explain the other one on the reg input pin. Also, as sop I always employ input and output caps, as per...

    Who Is This?

Speaking of self photos. Have y'all seen Miguel's photo? https://www.electronicspoint.com/1-mhz-oscillator-needed-t252719.html#post1502016 If I were to describe this photo it would be as such: There's a gun in his back and the guy holding it is saying.. "If you so much as breath the wrong...
