    Ask any electrician or a local suppy authority. I very much doubt that you can start connecting your own wizz bang gear to the grid, no matter how suped up you think it is. Might just save you a trip to the slammer or a hefty fine. Not much point enjoying the all green environment from behind...

    Don't know what the laws governing grid tie systems is in the UK but usually they follow closely with Australia. If this is the case you could be violating several laws which could see you landed in all sorts of trouble.

    Not the only way but most likely the simpler and cheaper alternative. Alternative involves pulse width modulation and (relatively) high current switching devices.
