    12v pumped into 1 metre of your nichrome wire will not produce much heat. 12/20 = 0.6amp 12 * 0.6 = 7.2w

    Looks like the photo shows a "torch beam" as a source of energy. Not much to work with there and panel looks rather tiny. I'm curious about the daytime application also.o_O

    I've seen this as a common problem in Thailand. Cure there is to strap a mattress over the incoming windows. Then when all is quiet the other end, give them a blast from your own set-up. Or maybe just move......:)

    Converter for each. They're cheap, maybe $2-$3 a pop. Vast range available to cover in-out voltage /current etc. on Ebay for example.

    Perhaps as an interim, a 555 could be used. As an add-on or integration into an auto system, one would imagine that any acceptable final idea would be to include it into existing ECU so maybe use a micro. I think you will find these levels are already monitored in engine emissions control.

    Now that I see a photo of your proposed install, perhaps you will need to re-think the location away from the hv distribution. In my experience any stray spark can jump into your nearby low voltage circuit( hall switch) and destroy it. What is the reason behind the proposed replacement?
