    Breaker and more than likely associated wiring no where near large enough. Also, when rectifying this, look at appropriate curve breaker for motor start.

    Large plastic lump is where it has blown it's top. Can you read the numbers on the flat face of the device?

    Start Run Motor Capacitor

    Many compressors use an unloader valve. Best check this first if it has this arrangement fitted. Since you have had the compressor for a time, perhaps you are aware of a pressure release noise as the motor shuts off. This is the unloader.

    Perhaps consider having the cue with a spring and a gearmotor with cam trip at the end. Would not have to travel very far , maybe 1 to 2 inches of pre-load I'd imagine. Much easier to set up than coils, magets and the like. When shot is required, cue lines up close to ball and gearmotor retracts...

    Forget the voltage divider idea...... Your circuit is wrong anyhow as you have a short across the 100 and LCD ,it's in the wrong place as well and I have no idea what the 100 is supposed to do either. Your LCD runs on 3v so you will need a supply to match that plus the approx. 0.7v drop you...

    Clone Arduino boards can be used at a cost of maybe $4 each, and even with extra external components, far less than any discrete device. In the latter you will need quite a few in comparison. It would be a good move to get just 1 up and running first as I suspect you will find this a bit more...
