A lightning strike has killed 2 BLX88 units (input 12-15V 320mA); I am attempting to repair them for no charge to them. They were plugged into a power strip, but could have gotten a surge through the mic port I guess. After testing the power supplies, I found them to be bad and replaced them; the boards are still dead though. (power supplies provide 12V 400mA)
Disassembling both revealed one board with several identical fried components surrounding the DC jack, and another board with no visible defects. I can't quite tell what the part numbers correspond to here, but I am inclined to think that the 'C0N400' refers to these small-medium black SMD components in question. These exact components do not appear anywhere else on the board. What are they?
I am a little confused in the diagnosing process, but I don't do this type of thing often so I may be missing my theory.
With my multimeter:
Board 1 (top; visibly fine): I am reading a variable 0 < V < 1 amount at the power jack while plugged in.
Board 2 (bottom; visibly fried components, power jack removed in pics): I am reading a full, stable 12V at the power jack while plugged in
What can one infer from these readouts? Where should I continue the diagnosis?
