48 LED 12v panel, need to dim it a bit would a resistor work?

I have a small 48 LED 1.5x1" panel for a car so its 12v, need to dim it a bit can I just add a resistor inline to dim the light?

Also anyone know around what resistance I should try, just rough idea are we talking like 10ohms or like 1000ohms?

I don't have the light yet just ordered it so I can't really measure the current...

It probably already has a resistor, so adding more resistance would be fine. If you can find out what it has now, that would give you a good idea of what to add, probably something like 1/4 to 1 times what is already there.
