I can again log in, read my alerts, log out, log in, and alerts which I have previously read, still appear. Is removal of acknowledged alerts on a 24 hour clock? I thot perhaps the grayed alert box had significance but apparently mistaken.

When there are new alerts, a small red circle with the bnumber of unread alerts will appear next to the bell symbol.
The bell symbol itslef is always there and can be used to browse older alerts.
