Capacitor help for a newbie

I have this small electronics project that uses 17  74LS374 chips, 2 74LS138 chips and 10 decoupling capacitors and that's it.  Unfortunately the project doesn't specify what type of decoupling capacitors to use.  All I have is a picture that shows the small can style.  I also don't know a lot about electronic components and could use some help on what type of decoupling capacitors to buy.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posting the schematic would help.

Generally 100nF ceramic capacitors are used for decoupling but sometimes 2.2

... and you need to place the capacitors as close to the supply pins as possible...
