Converting ATX PSU to Bench DC Power Supply

I am sure there are many threads on this. I would like to try this! I found a good blog/site/whatever where he shows his project. It came out really nice! (Converted Computer ATX Power Supply.... )

Is this the most economical way to make a DC Power supply? (In general, using a PSU)

It's a cheap and popular hack. That guy did a nice job of it too. He added a variable voltage section, which I think is separate from the ATX power supply.

I have a Micronta from Radio Shack from AGES ago, but I think it is only 0.5 Amp output (12V DC). Sometimes I need something with more oomph!
