Cordless drill motors?

Typically or generally speaking. If you apply 18 V to a 36 V motor
(basically the same motor design except the difference in voltage, each
for powering a cordless drill), will it run more powerfully but more
slowly than 18 V applied to an 18 V motor? Or maybe they gear down the
higher voltage motor as it runs at a higher rpm?

that depends on the 18V motor and the 36V motor.
Or maybe they gear down the
higher voltage motor as it runs at a higher rpm?

usually they want the tool to run faster, or they build the motor
to run at the speed they want.

No, it just runs slower, half speed roughly. for a typical PM DC motor
Speed is proportional to voltage, torque is proportional to current,
power is the product of the two, over the motors normal operating
range.
