Good Afternoon All,

I am assisting a client with a gemstone analyzer , unit was imported to South Africa. As we have a 220v electrical grid a stepdown is used to convert 220v to 110v. The unit consist of very few components , dimmer switch (125v/6a) , 110v transformer , fuse , led lamp (110v) , cooling fan (115v) and green 3v led to indicate power on unit.
The unit was mistakenly plugged into 220v directly , burned the transformer and dimmer switch.
Both damaged units was replaced.

Current Situation:
The dimmer switch only controls the fan speed of the cooling fan , while the 110V lamp turns on as soon as the unit is plugged in, and its brightness cannot be adjusted.
  • I've attached images of the unit for reference.
  • Wires was marked beforehand and connected as marked (by 3rd party)

  • Questions:
  • Could the issue be related to how the dimmer switch is wired? At no stage is the lamp connected to switch , only to transformer.
    • Is it possible that the new dimmer switch is incompatible with the lamp? All specs match 100%
    • Are there any specific troubleshooting steps I should follow to diagnose the issue further?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!
