I'm working on this assignment where I need to use Duncan's PSU II designer to model a supply but I'm having a little trouble understanding the purpose of RL. I'm supposed to be feeding this VDC (output of the bridge recitifier after the secondary of the transformer) into an LM117 regulator and don't understand what value to give RL. Should it model what kind of load the regulator is going to handle?

RL is there to simulate your load. If you want to use this to see what waveform you'll get out under varying load conditions, use an appropriate RL.

In real life, the RL doesn't typically exist (if it does, it serves a different purpose)
