So anyway in my search to become the overlord of electronics I figure I would start... you now... learning and stuff.
one thing I haven't found yet and hopefully we have a smart guy on here to do it, is a camera app for electronics. something that you can scan a part number and it pulls up a data sheet. or even better one that recognises the colour code on a resistor.
anyone got any ideas on this....
P.S. I use android cos apples are for eating not computing

I've seen the idea come up a number of times... the tricky part will be image recognition.
In the right picture, that's easy... but how many blurry/grainy/over-exposed/flash-reflected images do we see on here? Even a basic app that lets you punch in a part# would be ideal.

I would be happy to have an Android app that reads the bar codes on my extensive collection of Blu-Ray and other DVDs and then translates that into a description I can refer to the next time I visit Second Time Around to purchase a used disk. I hate buying the same disk multiple times because I forgot I already have one (or more) copies at home... STA has a no-refund policy: unless it's defective, all sales final. They do purchase used disks in pristine condition, if they need your particular title, for about fifty cents each.
