Hi trained monkey,

Delay pedals are somewhat different from others because you don't modifiy the signal as in distorsion, vibrato or others
The delay can be done via signal shifting in BBD lines (the analog way) or sampled/stored and replayed (the digital and more recent way)

Dedicated components exist to do that, googling a bit I found the PT2239 and the HT8955:

http://www.futurlec.com/Others/PT2399.shtml

Maybe they are good components to sart with.

thanks,
i'll have a look at those ICs but could you also tell me more about the analog method. i'm less familiar with digital circuits.
im not really sure how to construct or use capacitor bucket brigades.

Both methods realistically involve an IC that does most of the hard work.

Whilst you could build one from discrete components, it would be a bit like building your own car from raw materials...

Olive2222 has given you some excelent links to follow. I really can't add anything (unless I read it for you).
