Help a newbie out!!!!!

Hi I need some help!!

Im using a 9v battery to power a transformer but the transformer only works momentarily how can i make it work continuously(or however you spell it) or i need to change the power source to D or C batterys

hi nestorages,
this is the deal, u cant use a transformer with Direct Current ( DC )from a battery.

here is why

a transformer only works with Alternating Current ( AC ).
if you were to touch the battery to the windings of the transformer and removed it ,u might notice a little spark, that spark is caused by the collapsing magnetic field.
same principle as the automotive ignition system.

Do you want to step-up the voltage of your battery?
I will add to Harsh's reply with an example:
A camera's flash needs a high voltage, but has only a low-voltage battery. You know the whining sound that the camera makes just after one flash but before the next? That sound (not the film advance motor noise) is made by a high-power oscillator that has an AC output, which feeds into a stepup transformer to produce a high AC voltage. If the high voltage must be DC, the tranformer's output is rectified and filtered.

If you connect a battery directly to a transformer, the battery will quickly be drained, because with DC, the transformer is just a piece of wire (dead short).
