It works! I built one with about 20M simple phone-line cable from my garage to my grandpa's living-door without a single problem

That is nice and simple.
How do you keep the bees out?

Did ZomBiE's intercom go 20 Miles or 20 meters?
Didn't it pick up a lot of mains hum without him using shielded cable for it?

Is that why I hear a humm like the old Tube Intercoms use to have?

20 meters. Yeah, small amount of hum, not disturbing though.
