Could someone help me out with this motor that I found in a printer, I'm not sure if it's a AC or DC motor and what power to supply to it. The only marking on it is #5000-5089. it has a Hewlett packard optical encoder on it reference HEDM-5605 B06.

Any help would be much appreciated

looks like a stepper motor

when you rotate the shaft does it rotate smoothly or does it feel like its going in small steps ..."bump bump" ??

Looks like a bi-polar stepper to me to. You will need a driver to run that motor.
