Our very first latin lesson. Teacher asks "what do you know about latin already?"
Some unlucky 11-year-old: "Latin is a dead language".
Scene like nuclear reactor gone hiwire. He had lost forever.

myself, and I rather like Thomas Cranmer's version--but it isn't the
phrasing that matters.

I'd think "Thanks, you too!" would suffice. ;-)
But I seriously disagree with the message in Jim's cartoon - it just
shows extreme paranoia.

Assuming "peccata" means "sins" I can assure you that we do have the
absolution at Lutheran services. The difference is that we do not have
to go to individual confession although that is still encouraged. We ask
for forgiveness together. If you came to the US and attended Lutheran
service you'd be surprised how close it is to Catholic service in Europe.

after the popes remarks might not share yours.
