Sharing hardware projects like code on GitHub

How many ways do you know how to share a something like a pcb design with friends to collaborate and make changes on? I’ve seen few. Outside of just sending a file or sharing it to a maker site. It seems like you need to have some high end software like Altium. I envy the GitHub coders and hope there is a way to share projects in the same vain of a repository. I’m starting a project with some school friends and we’re going to attempt to use allspice.io . It seems to fulfill this requirement. I’m curious if any one out there has had any experience with it or if they used any git like clients.

Depends on what software you are using for PCB design.
But I can break it down to my original thoughts with a number two pencil & any piece of paper.
