** What planet does this narcissistic fool living on ?????

I am sorry if I offended you. I only wanted to say that although you
were right to warn Julien of some possible consequences of his posts I
thought his posts were valuable.

** Who gives a rat's what a posturing idiot like YOU thinks ??

YOU have no idea if what Julian posted is true or fair comment or not.

And yes, I did snip one of those
posts because I did not think it was relevant to this thread about the
legal and moral aspects of the posts.

** Bollocks.

In addition I guessed that,

** Only fools make guesses and then acts on them.

in
your case, the lawyers were used in an _attempt_ to silence critics
and that Julien should not be too concerned before he gets a letter
from the lawyers.

** The time to be concerned is well before any letters from lawyers
rrive - cos by then it is probably too late.

Obviously, YOU have not the faintest damn clue what a LAWYER'S letter
complaining about defamation demands of the recipient and threatens to do to
that same person.

I am glad that you were not silenced and the purpose
of my post was to encourage Julien to speak out too.

** YOU have no idea if what Julian posted is true or even fair comment not.

YOU are NOT the one at risk of being sued.

I hesitated to do
that before confirming that you were not bankrupted by Hooper and Co.

** Huh ?????

So anything less than total financial ruin is perfectly OK in your
estimation.

Just so some congenital dope like YOU be amused by a pointless NG whinge.

Unbelieveable !!

Brian is in my kill filter. But for the record the reason I considered
it was because I did the project for my father, who has freinds who
want the same. The idea of a kit from jaycar was great. Furhtermore, I
had a few other things that pissed me off about the whole idea, but
thats another story.

Julian,

It saddens me to read you have been treated so unfairly. Regrettably, it
would appear that company loyalty (in some circles) counts for nothing these
days, as does your rights to intellectual property. :-( I'm glad you
mentioned a number of projects in the pipe that you had initial suggestion
or involvement with. I will keep an eye out for them, albeit in view of the
poor treatment and apparent disrespect shown by SC towards you I'm reluctant
to purchase future issues of the magazine on principle alone.

Obviously there are two sides to this story. Perhaps Leo may care to add
his perspective? In any event I have no doubt a man of your talent and
ability will go onto bigger and better things and reflect back on this as a
learning experience. Good luck.

Cheers,
Alan

Why on earth would Leo care to add his perspective - with the standard
of posts to this newsgroup he'd be on a hiding to nothing. It's obvious
there has been a falling out - Julian telling Leo to get fucked
probably didn't do much to help the situation. He's much better doing
what he's doing - nothing - and wait until Julian Edgar fades into the
mists of time.

Of course there are two sides to the story - we've only heard one side
and I bet that is as embellished as it could be. I'm saddened to think
that people automatically assume that what is posted on here is the
truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Leo expose himself to the rough-house of usenet? I sure don't think so.
He
wouldn't even run a Letter to the Editor from me critical of his
editorial - that astonishing piece of writing to be found at
http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_107649/article.html

As an exercise, count how many points he makes for which there is no
evidence presented, or cited, or alluded to...

(And that leads me to one of the journalistic reasons for my
resignation!)

Julian Edgar

And the problem with that editorial is what?

I totally agree with what he says (I just read it again to make sure I
didn't miss anything the first time). Just because you disagree with
him doesn't exactly make it astonishing. Not unless you happen to be
one of those he is talking about.

Oooohhhhhhh. According to the Silicon Chip website, you're a former
teacher. The ducks are starting to line up nicely.

** Nothing much, except possibly that actual incidences of pseudo science
being promoted in Australian classes are very rare. IOW - it is a beat
up.

But aren't nearly all editorials like that ?

I totally agree with what he says (I just read it again to make sure I

him doesn't exactly make it astonishing. Not unless you happen to be

** Likely Julian felt Leo had cast a monstrous slur on all teachers.

Oooohhhhhhh. According to the Silicon Chip website, you're a former
teacher. The ducks are starting to line up nicely.

** Julian is quite naive about the real world.

His ideas on IP rights and defamation are a tad childish.

And the problem with that editorial is what?
The sentence "some science teachers believe and teach their pupils
that the American space trips to the Moon never happened" is not true.
No government school teachers of any kind believes that and none of
them have told their students that. Given the unbelievable nature of
Simpson's statement he could reasonably be expected to give some
evidence that the statement is true. He does not.

He probably got the idea from, for example, Alan Jones' friend's
brother-in-law who misunderstood an assignment on Internet conspiracy
theories.

We've only read Julian's version of events.
I too doubt if Leo would be bothered airing his views here either.
The only one who believes that what is posted here is the truth, the whole
truth and nothing but the truth is PA in relationship to his own posts. :p

Wow, you are amazing - fancy interviewing every school teacher in Australia, and
interviewing every pupil they have ever taught - quite an undertaking not to
mentionthe cost of having teachers and pupils tested with a lie detector ot make
sure they are being truthful.

How long did it take you to undertake this mamoth task? And who paid for it?

David - who thinks David Seagull just might be exaggerating a bit

But the relationship between left wingers and conspiracy nutters is what
exactly? Many teachers vote for the hard right parties anyway.
IMO there have always been more flat earthers on the fascist side of
politics. Have a look at who is promoting (so called) intelligent design
theories for example.

Frankly I've never met a teacher who believes the moon landings were fake.
Maybe Leo knows the only one, then proceeds to lump them all in the same
basket.
And you agree with that "logic"? (or lack thereof)
I'm betting it's NOT a science teacher either.
Leo should do himself a favour and read the curriculum before ranting, but
then again he gets paid regardless of ignorance, the same reason Alan Jones
and John Laws do it.

If enough people do it, then he sure doesn't, especially with

Do you really believe that a journalist is entitled to insult a large
group of people and it is up the group to disprove a negative? Am I
allowed to write an editorial that asserts that "I have now just been
shocked to learn that some editorial staff at "Silicon Chip" are
pedophiles"? I think it is up to me to provide evidence of that
statement and the fact that nobody can ever _prove_ I am wrong is
irrelevant.

My "exaggerating a bit" was based on the reasonable assumption that if
only one science teacher had made the ridiculous statement that
Simpson attributes to them then several hundred people would know
about it. There would have been a scandal, and Simpson could, and
would, have behaved like a journalist by backing up his editorial with
some facts.

Hi Julian.

I'd like to at least say that although I'm not all that much into car
modifications, u-beaut Luxeon lighting etc, found your articles very
interesting.

I have noticed a recent decline in the content of SC. In principle I
should give up buying the magazine because of the lack of any real new
ideas, but have to admit that there is nothing else out there, and I
also believe in supporting an Aussie product.

Unfortunately I also think that the production of SC is a 'family
based' affair and assume that it's not a big 'money generator' that I
had imagined - I may be wrong here, and maybe it is indeed a great
business but with not much 'renumeration' to the article writers.

It would be great to see the magazine improve, but unless there is a
major change in thinking, and financing, don't see much happening at
all.

To cut off the people who have supported you in the past is what I'm
trying to get my head around here. Fair enough, it may not be a big
business, but most of us try to help the people who have helped us.

I must say that I find Leo's "rantings" informative, and cannot
disagree with anything he has said in the editorial. To put it this
way, I'd imagine that if he'd consulted the 'politically correct'
groups and managed to get a somewhat intelligent reply, the editorial
would contain pretty much SFA.

Anyway, I think another fine electronics magazine will be headed down
the gurgler unless some changes are made. I mean changes, not talking
about it, nor putting things off, just paying a reasonable amount for
smart people and ideas...

Cheers, (at least we can get pissed and lament), Phil.

Just to make one thing clear: Leo Simpson did not 'cut me off'. In
fact, subsequent to my resignation, he made available an opportunity
for me to reconsider. But as no changes had occurred to my original
reasons for resignation, I saw no reason to change my decision.
