i have a small 12v motor 10rpm attached with fishing line to a small crane every revolution raises and lowers the boom. for my holiday display the motor revolves 10-12 hrs a day.
after 4 days for the second year in a row the fishing line snapped i guess from the stress of going up and down so many times
would dental floss be stronger?
what other "thread" would work?
mini chain is too thich to pass trhough the crane

This is an electrical forum.
What you describe is a mechanical issue so perhaps use a heavier guage fishing line or brickies stringline.

PolyTetraFluoroEthylene (PTFE)
Teflon dental floss would be my choice; it will break down in 70 to 80 years If exposed to the atmosphere. For your application it is more than strong enough; resistant to embrittlement and readily available in the bathroom medicine cabinet…
