Star Trek inspired me to pursue electrical engineering in school. I wanted to be like Mr. Spock and Scottie.

I actually joined the Navy because I thought it was going to be as cool and exciting as my favorite Star Trek scene of all time:

Unfortunately the reality was not glamorous at all. They made me work my tail off.

I hope that AI, 3D-Printing, and Molecular Nanotechnology can produce for me this young early version of Joan Collins:

She was quite the looker back then.

I’d like to retire as part of a team, an organization, working on projects as thrilling and exciting as this:

Is this what it’s like to work at Boeing or NASA?

I always wanted to be “Scotty” the Chief Engineer “The Miracle Worker” on Star Trek:

Someone everyone respected and depended on, and who came through for them every time.

I always wanted to learn how to use a computer like this:

Even back then Scotty knew Polymers were not as safe and strong as metals (eg. Aluminum, Titanium, Carbon Steel, etc.).

I love James Doohan’s portrayal of the eccentric lone engineer who still makes use of Morse code:

I tried teaching myself Morse code using one of those apps and I gave up. It was extremely difficult and it just became not worth it. I think it’s obselete now. No one really uses it anymore. I heard they removed it from the ham radio test because not many people could pass it.

I thought Picard was wrong in this Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Silicon Avatar”:

This Crystalline Entity had already killed thousands of people, including this woman’s son. Yet they made her the villain—-crazy, unhinged, and unlikable—-in this episode.

The Crystaline Entity needed to be hunted down and destroyed for all the people it killed, irregardless of whether it was just feeding.

That’s what we do when an animal kills and/or eats a person, especially if it’s a child. We hunt that animal down and put it down, with a shotgun, or we euthanize it.

Captain Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series understood this:

Even though they knew the creature was killing people because it just needed salt to survive, the creature had killed too many of Kirk’s men for Kirk not to kill it.

They could have just captured it and simply given it an infinite supply of salt, perhaps by moving it to an uninhabited planet rich with this resource.

It would have been easiest thing in the world for Kirk to do, but because the creature had already taken too many human lives, I think Kirk did the right thing by killing it.

The Original Series Communicator was my favorite piece of Star Trek electronics:

It was definitely the prototype for the flip phone, and ultimately the smartphone.

My second favorite Star Trek electronic device is the Original Series Phaser weapon:

I wanted to work at Lockheed Martin but I thought I was not good enough.

In the future I hope we get rid of all firearms, like in Star Trek, and move entirely to non-lethal, direct current energy weapons that stun and not kill.

We already have the electronics technology:

I’m worried I might have one of those complexes that causes some people to become crazed with hate towards me:

The only way to fight such madness is with wisdom:
