Hello,
I haven't the end of stupid people. I remember a Woody Allen, movie,
and Woody, places a few magazines out to seem more intellegent to a
lady who's about to stop by his appartment. Well, at that point, Bill
Gates, didn't get filthy rich targeting a tiny little market. You go
to the software store, and you see an edition of windows that's two or
three years old for 99.99$ Then they want 250.00$ for this years
version. Well, I'm sure that vista will probably go for 400.00 to
475.00$ when the public first sees it. But, Windows XP, will be up for
a raw 99.99$. He ain't going broke, and in fact he's got more money
than he can count in his own lifetime. He's got so much of it, he can
afford to take a dumptruck full of ones, and just burn the pile. When
he thought of computers, he looked at em' like hamburgers, not
diamonds, and wanted everyone to have. So, when I go searching for a
Circuit Simulator, and see the prices these people are charging. It is
as if there isn't a single Trekki out there, and nobody wanted to
impress.
But, there are hobbiests, working on RC cars and airplanes that may
never care to do anything else or more. There are people that retain
an interest in the mathematics, but not the career choice. Then there
are schools, and people that own computers that do have an interest in
what goes on inside this thing. If they want to charge a mountian of
money, well, Hospitals are full of electronics, and they should have
every schematic of every device in a model, to best insure that when
the device fails, the problem can be tracked down without desoldering
resoldering the circuit board to death, and believe me, I've seen it.
There are radio broadcasters, television broadcasters, and all of them
have the same goal of staying on the air. If you don't know your
equipment when something goes wrong, you know where to look for the
problem. But, understanding it, having simulations to look over,
before you even start to desolder that joint, you could know that is
the problem without a question or reason for doubt. Sure, with time
and experiance you gather an eye, and feel for your work, but that
doesn't fix the circuit board you unplugged, and replaced. So, there
are plenty of reasons to charge more for software because, you would
have to draw all the schematics of major importantance.
Send a copy of this message to your favorite electronics magazine, or
software supplier, and let them know, engineers aren't the only ones
and nipping at the heels of the rich, won't make you that much richer.
How do think they got there? They saw the demand, but they didn't
destroy the market. There are students, schools, people all over the
place that are interested in all the good that come of, or be done with
electronics. Video games, memory cards, theory, circuits that prove
that theory, robotics. We need to change things, and hopefully,
some-one will get filthy fucking rich!
