Which component is shorted? and why?
Perhaps a better explanation is required.Which component is shorted? and why?

Answer is given as R4. But don't have explanation.Perhaps a better explanation is required.
It appears to me that the boxes along the top are Amp Meters, and they all read the same thing.
Do you have any additional note or details about the circuit?
Which component(s) do you expect?
Edit: This certainly appears to be Homework Help, please put this in the homework section next time.
Take a look at the drawing again, and try to look at where the current will flow if R4 is shorted.Answer is given as R4. But don't have explanation.
Assuming the boxes are ammeters (gryd3's post #2), each box could be replaced by a short circuit as an ideal ammeter measures current without introducing any additional resistance into the circuit (note that real ammeters do have a resistance). In that case a short of any of the resistors R1...R4 would cause an infinite current from the voltage source through all ammeters to the left of the shorted resistors. The ammeters to the right of the shorted resistor would see a current of 0A because the voltage across the short circuit is 0V.Answer is given as R4. But don't have explanation.
