Interesting LED announcement from Electronic Products.

Thin-film LEDs deliver 64 lm at 500 mA

Providing white light with an intensity of 64 lm (at 500 mA) at a color coordinate that falls within the permissible SAE
specification, the latest Golden Dragon Series of SMT LEDs can be used in exterior automotive lighting such as daylight
running lights and headlights without restriction. Features include color coordinates of x = 0.33, y = 0.33, a color
temperature of 5,600 K, and an optical efficiency of 36 lm/W.

The InGaN thin-film devices have a forward voltage of 3.2 V and use an optimized package with special carrier material
for an operating temperature range from -40° to 100°C. The Pb-free SMT LEDs are suitable for IR reflow soldering. (From
less than $10 available now.)

That makes it $0.28 per lumen. Normal use will require some power processing to efficiently maintain the 3.2 volts.

A PL-7 lamp is rated at about 400 lm, generally under $2.00, but requires a ballast. 400 lm of these LED assemblies
would be about $111.

Bill,

Lumileds 1 W white LEDs put out 45 lm at 350mA and the cost per lumen
is $0.0662. Thats equal lumens per watt for a lot less $$$ than you
quoted.

So, you can buy this white Luxeon for $2.98? That's a pretty
good price. In what quantity?
