Hi All...new to site - need advice
I am planning to power a small water craft - has two stationary 12V electric trolling motors mounted under platform..one on either side. Motors go forward and reverse. Each motor is powered by its own battery. I know that these motors need 30 amp fuses to protect circuits.
I want to be able to use a joystick to control the motors (e.g, push forward - both motors drive forward; push back - both motors drive in reveres; push right - right motor drives reverse and left motor drives forward; push left - left motor drives reverse and right motor drives forward). I know I need a joystick, relays, and fuses but am not sure what exactly I need (don't have a parts list nor the vocabulary to communicate exactly what I need) or where to purchase.
Would someone please advise:
1. as to materials list, specific parts names and a good source for parts (joystick needs to be outdoor weather friendly - other parts will be protected.
2. how to wire the hardware...possible diagram???
3. If a PDS (power distribution system saw them in my research) board is required, board specs if I can use one and where would be a good source
I know this is a lot to ask but I am a virtual neophyte but willing to learn.

JOYSTICK CONTROL FOR 2 ELECTRIC MOTORS
in Electronics chit chat
Posted
Hi I am new here and have little electronics experience.
I have a boat project and need to power two electric trolling motors using 2 - 12V batteries (one each). Each motor can go forward or reverse. I want to control the motors using a joystick.
For example: joystick forward - both motors F; joystick pulled back - both motor R; joystick right, left motor F, Right motor R; joystick left - left motor R, right motor F.
I know I need relays and fuses and of course joystick and appropriate size wiring. I believe these motors need 30 amp fuses so I am aasuming they need 30A relays.
Questions:
1. Can someone draw me a diagram on how to wire this setup? or describe...
2. what would be my materials list? I have a sense of what I need but don't have the proper vocabulary to look on online stores with any confidence.
3. Would a PDC board be useful here? I think the relays are built into this kind of board and you can buy them already built - if so, can you cite a source and the exact name of the unit I would need to do this project?
Thanks, I really need the help. I have attached a simple drawing of what the craft looks like.
