Need a name for this part...

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have a project in mind that I would like to prototype.
To begin though, I need to find out the name of a type of connector/connection used, so I can lookup parts.

I usually see it on most cordless phones and such. It's the contact used to power the phone when it's hung on the base. There is usually 1 or 2 contact plates on the botton of the phone itself. And on the base there are a set of pins that match up with these 'plates' to supply power.

1] What is this style of connection called?

2] Is this connection only viable for 'powerering/charging' a device or can it be used as well, for example, on let's say a 'fast' data transfer connection from a USB 1.1 or 2 PC device?
