Stevemath....calling all e.e. people on weathercenter idea

I am going to design a weather center for my ee lab. I have basic circuit and digital knowledge, but still having some trouble conceiving big picture here. I'm thinking sensors for air temp, wind speed, humid, etc, through a/d convertors to stamp board run by microcontroller, which will be programmed to read out measurements on an lcd. Going through ee texts and electronics catalogues trying to formulate starting point and plan.

I know I'm being a bit vague here, but anyone with knowledge and good bit of generosity would be greatly appreciated...whatever insight you would like to share with me...where to get nuts and bolts procedural approach, specific parts needed, good sources of info, or any of your own ideas. I'd be thrilled with any feedback.
