How to store audio stream, then encode if possible

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I want to design an audio recorder. Analog audio data will be quantized (PCM coded) into 8-bit paralel data, then will be stored in a storage.

What kind of storage do you suggest for this project? I need a storage unit with a capacity of 10MB or higher. Is there any IC in the market for that purpose?

I want to ask one more thing. I think it would be nice to store the audio data in MP3 format. But can I implement it via a simple PIC IC? Discrete cosine transform is not something so simple to realize with a simple PIC, isn't it? Is there any way to do it? Or do you know any MP3 encoder ICs?
