Traffic lights One Switch

Hi

I need some help. I'm doing a project which includes traffic ligths. I want to the lights to stay on Red when input is zero. When input is 1 it should go Red&Orange (and then perhaps orange alone?) and then green and stay there until input is 0. When input is back to 0 it should go from Green to Orange and then back to Red and stay there.

The guys I work with we made one with a time delay, a pretty strait forward one which is usable. Anywas I have been trying to get it to work with J/K FF without any luck. I can get it to cycle back and forth, and also stop it on green, but can't get it from green to orange and then stop on red.

Is it possible, or maybe a bad way to do it? We use pretty basic components aswell since this is our first project, so no programming etc.

We already have something to use, but this is bugging me so much I just can't leave alone ???.

Any other suggestions or advice are appreciated.
