Solenoid instantaneous power supply

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I have a 3vDC solenoid like this
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/266566490/DC_solenoid.html
I want to build a miniature actuator that its task is, when the trigger key is pushed, after 5 seconds the solenoid is triggered for only 0.5 second.
I have no large space for circuit and the battery. I will use SMD components for the circuit and a Li-Po battery like this
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/321994480/lithium_battery_RC_toys_battery_HGB602026.html

But I think the power of a small battery is not enough for trigger the solenoid. Can I charge a capacitor and discharge it to the solenoid? what is the best compact, low weight and reliable design?

(the life of the battery is not important for the application. Suppose that the actuator is only once used for its life)
