Hello,
I recently purchased a battery operated vehicle for my 2 year old grandson. It has a 12V lead acid battery and a momentary pushbutton controlling the motor. The first thing I noticed was that the switch was connected directly to the motor, so the inrush will kill it pretty quick. The other problem is that when you push the button, the vehicle lunges forward instantly, throwing my grandson back and pulling his thumb off the switch. This continues until he gets frustrated and decides he isn't interested in it any more. I picked up and installed a small variable speed PWM controller with soft start from Amazon. It has connections for battery, motor, potentiometer and switch. The pot controls the maximum speed and the switch begins the soft start. Everything works as it should, except the ramp up time is way too slow. It takes approximately 4-5 seconds to get up to full speed and 1-2 seconds for the vehicle to start moving at all. So, now the problem is he doesn't hold the button long enough for it to move and thinks it's broken. Frustrated and not interested again. I went from one extreme to the other. I was hoping that someone on the board was familiar with this controller and would know how to decrease the ramp up time. I have a couple high resolution pics of both sides of the board. One of the images is flipped so they will lay on top of each other. I thought that might help follow traces. Thanks for any ideas regarding this. Hopefully, it's just a resistor change, or even better, installing a pot in place of a resistor to allow for an adjustable ramp up time.
