    tinning

Depends on the actual joint you are making. At work I do a lot of wire to wire joints, so twist the untinned wires together before soldering. Also wrapping wires around terminal posts, or through a securing hole on some terminals, is best done without tinning. Tinning before soldering to...

    Comedy Thread

Not bad, probably better than much of the #RAP music that is coming out from the so called music industry at the moment.

    What music do you like?

Not the cr#p played at high volume in the workshop at work by the young guys who can't tell the difference between music and noise!

advantage and disadvatnge of AC to DC converter circuit

Much safer and easier to use a 12v AC/DC power supply/wall wart of the correct current rating to drive the fan.

Inverting a negative PWM signal to a Positive PWM

I think what he means is that the Holley output is a sink type. It pulls voltage down to negative ground. The cruise control requires a source type input. It pulls the voltage high: 5v in this case. What I have done before is to connect the output and input to a 10kΩ resistor. The other end of...

    COVID-19

Hope you get well soon Steve. Here in New Zealand we have just had the first day of a 4 week nationwide lockdown. Most workplaces, factories, shops, offices, etc are closed unless they are deemed as an essential service. McDonald's, KFC etc are even shut! People might have to learn how to...

LED Light Bar Power Source and Wiring Harness

Hope this helps you wire up the lights. Top drawing shows the switch connected to battery positive on terminal 30 of the relay. This looks like how the loom is wired in your photos. The lights will work independently from your headlights, so you will also have to switch them off in traffic. The...

    Parallel resistance

The theory is that there should be a 120Ω resistor at each end of the CAN bus(backbone) giving a total resistance of 60Ω, but I have seen systems working with three resistors. Suggest you just hook it up and see if it works. Manufacturers that insist in putting resistors in their units are a...

Learning experience simulating a bad ground on a 2008 dodge charger

Yep, you can get all sorts of weird issues with bad earths on vehicles.

Will this work to increase running time of battery

Afraid not, it will be worse. You will lose efficiency converting 12v to 5v and then again boosting 5v back to 12v.

The way you have shown it in your diagram is perfect. No need to overcomplicate it.

Car GPS (in case car is stolen)

I have fitted quite a few GPS trackers to the smaller excavators that fit on a car trailer. The trackers were fitted to help find the machine if they were stolen. As far as I know, none of the machines I fitted them to have been stolen. I found the trackers great for finding the machines when...

Solenoid drawing barely any current -- is this normal?

That 24 volt solenoid is fairly small, so wouldn't be surprised that it has a high resistance coil that draws very little current. What is the maximum resistance that your meter can read?
