Next Smoke Detector Millionaire or Not?

I'd see if it can be moved to another location. Perhaps next to a loft or balcony where it can be reached. Incorporating a charger isn't a good idea because people may use the wrong batteries. In USA, smoke detectors must follow local building codes. For construction after 1991, most...

    Regulating voltage made it worse???

I'm surprised it works at all with that zener regulator. The controller is limited to 15ma through the 300Ω resistor and most relays draw at least twice that. I would employ all the good suggestions given. Use a better more efficient regulator (lm7812 or switching type), use flyback diodes to...

Current passed through my headphones into my head? Is it possible?

With headphones out, the noise must have come elsewhere. Probably the amp. It's highly doubtful current passed through your head. If it did you likely wouldn't live to tell about it. Even if the headphones were accidentally shorted to line voltage, the current would not take the path through...

    Toroidal transformer replacement

Yes, just parallel the secondaries to double the va output. That is provided they share the same primary.

NS-R5101HD same as Pioneer VSX-819H-K Receiver

Try to find any similarities. Do any inputs work? Does the problem follow to other side if you swap left and right inputs? Is there any dc voltage on the output to the speakers? Is there any problem with pre-outs or is it just final amp? Download the schematic, try following the analog audio...

Power supply for little halogen light popped

Yay, way to go Dries. Just measuring voltage across the resistor. I can't explain why your not reading any current. You should see about .25 volts dropped across that 1.5Ω resistor given ~170ma incoming current. If you discovered how to supply that load at only 14uA, I want to come work for you.

Power supply for little halogen light popped

So its working now? Where are you measuring? You should have 150ma or more on the incoming line, but if you were measuring current across (parallel) the 1.5Ω resistor you wouldn't read much. Try reading voltage drops across it instead of inline current measurements.

IR IMAGING DEVICE on the cheap

The resolution of a C2 sucks (4800 pixels) to be of much use. You need much higher resolution to see detail for electronics use. Btw, If anyone is interested, I've got a Flir E4 upgraded software to E8 resolution (76,800 pixels) for sale at a fair price.

    Heater thermsotat receiver unit

The frequency is probably shifting with your interaction. It could be a bad cap, but more likely to be a bad diode or something in the oscillator section. Honestly, after looking for comonly failed parts I'd probably just pitch it and pony up the money for a new one, unless you've got an...

convert Battery powered alarm to mains with battery backup?

Good point about the pir sensor needing to be stabilized if power is interrupted. I figure during the ~15ms opening of the relay, the filter caps in the power supply would easily sustain the voltage during the transition.

    Use for old scanner?

There are a few one horse towns that still use analog signals for listening to police. These can be followed on a trunk capable radios or using trunking software on a pc. Other than listening in on Mayberry, Most larger communities (where its interesting to listen in) have moved over to...

    Use for old scanner?

Thanks for the clarification Hunter64. Kind of cool, but if I was going to tap the raw radio signal for decoding, I would just use one of those full rf spectrum usb cards on a pc which you would need anyway. Yes, I do get NOAH weather channel but its not much use to me. I guess I'll salvage a...

    Use for old scanner?

Thanks Bertus, it has an earphone jack so I might have given the wrong number. I used to love listening to police conversation back in the day. I had a crazy idea that there might be a way to convert it to something useful. Perhaps a crude frequency counter? Sad but I think I need to say...

Uniden bearcat bc100xlt radio scanner 200 channels. I clipped it to get 800mhz 30years ago. Other than listening to one side of the conservation of taxi cabs, road commission, or occasionally a fire dispatch, it's not of much use. I just can't bring myself to pitch it. I suppose there might...

    Use for old scanner?

I've got an old police scanner that's been kicking around for years. It's not of much use now a days with trunked and encrypted communication becoming the norm. Any ideas of how I can use or repurpose this radio, or should I just scrap it? I was hoping there might be some sort of hack to turn...

You can still get whatever bulb you want here in USA provided your willing to pay the price. I do agree with the dept of energys ruling on the law stopping production of the common incandescent bulb. The benefits are huge. Regardless of law. Supply and demand will always rule. Btw, we still...
