    Wanted: anti-static storage foam

    Can you help designing buffer?

"Dead bug" designs have sometimes been potted in resins, to become quite durable. And irreparable. Still, this is far from the OP's query. I certainly hope they took Harald Kapp's advice seriously and didn't bother building the circuit. How did it all go, Sono?

    Component acquisition for hobbyists?

Hi Lobos It might be interesting to know what excess stock you've got. Sending stuff through the mail still works. I have high power, high voltage SMD MOSFETs, for example. They're tiny and cost little to post. Swaps might be arranged!

First resonate a short antenna, then impedance match it ?

Yes, "small" antennas can be very useful at lots of interesting tasks - like "short" bits of string. The thing is: how short? Different kinds of signals require different antennas. And most importantly - what would you like to achieve? Edit... My guess is that Kellogs needs a painless way to...

    The Laugh Machine :D

I do sort of like this one. It's good because it can have obvious mechanical parts, which people enjoy watching. You've somehow made me think of Edison's wax recording technology. :)

    The Laugh Machine :D

Yes, a recorder IC... a very practical solution. So how come part of my response is boredom? I think there's very little room for mischievous ingenuity in life, lately.

    The Laugh Machine :D

Hi :) I have an idea for some fun electronics. It's called "The Laugh Machine". The Laugh Machine is made of 2 parts. There's a microphone, and a 1 second delay and amplifier/speaker unit. To use the Laugh Machine, put it in front of your friend, and switch it on. Tell him to laugh. The Laugh...

    Wanted: anti-static storage foam

Thank you very much, Delta Prime. It's pretty cheap stuff! Now that I know its name I can probably find something a bit more local (I'm in Northern Queensland - far from just about everywhere.) Here's an edit: Jaycar, which is Australia's street level transistor and multimeter etc shop, assured...

    Wanted: anti-static storage foam

Hi and smiles to all :) I want to store my ICs on a nice big sheet of "that black foam" that IC's are sometimes delivered on. Conductive stuff, thick enough to put components on both sides... I dream of half-meter square sheets of the stuff... my eyes go all soft and then I must (gaah) awaken...

Need a reliable circuit for 4MHz crystal oscillator

Just to touch base... I'll be using a couple of spare 74HC02 NOR gates, but I've already committed my stock-in-hand on the board I'm building. It'll be a day or 3 before I can build a separate test circuit. Thanks everybody :)

How about hot steam for unsoldering (more effective than heat gun?)

I like the freshness of the approach. Amazingly dangerous though. 500°C steam in sufficient quantity to desolder a chip on a cold board could cause severe injuries. I tried to visualise a sane steam desoldering unit just now and I think it's a very big project. I don't believe in a handheld unit.

Need a reliable circuit for 4MHz crystal oscillator

Thank you Mr Kapp. I have abandoned the transistor circuit in favour of the TTL design - I have some spare gates in my board design. Some thread on Stack Exchange had convinced me that the TTL circuit would be too unreliable. Also I am having difficulties because I've been away from the work a...

Ohh That sounds just right :) Can I borrow your riveter for a "while"? Maybe I better get one for myself... whence came your wonderful riveted PCB making machine?

Need a reliable circuit for 4MHz crystal oscillator

Hi Peeps I'm weeks away from Mouser/RS and need a reliable transistor or TTL circuit for a 4MHz oscillator. I have a good crystal but the circuit I found online doesn't work. If someone out there has invented a reliable version of this wheel, please let me have the circuit :) Mark

Best Practices for Component Sourcing in DIY Electronics Projects

I've been working on a TTL design that uses counters, logic gates, transistors and switches. (Of course that's how my machine works. Right Dave?) I get my stuff from Jaycar if they've got it and I want it. Next are Digikey, Mouser, RS, Infineon, WES. What I'd like to find is a source of really...

    I need a 350V, 1A PSU

Mr Kapp kindly provided a link to a suitable current amplifier, which comprises a fat transistor arranged around the 3 terminal regulator. I feel pretty happy about the circuit he suggested. :)
