    Use AC speakers in Car

AHA! Thank you. Did basics in the mid 70's and had forgotten the theory.

    Use AC speakers in Car

Regarding rectified AC.. above thread... Would the AC, which if 11.9V pk-pk, not be +5.85V - 0V - -5.85V? Then, after smoothing pos half-cycles & ripple, no-load V is +5.85V? Then with load, depending on transformer power and load, about 5>4.5V DC ? Or even at 18V p-p this still rectifies to...

    9volt battery

Get a 12V 7Ah SLA battery, use a DC-DC regulator circuit. The power transistor Q1 must handle minimum 1A, preferably more. Heat-sink Q1 collector with thermal compound to case or aluminium heat-sink. The 2N555 can handle up to 3A collector current (Ic) but can be replaced if not available with...

Analog TV Tuner struck by lightning

Most likely that IC's have been damaged by surge. As @dorke says, probably beyond economical repair. All surface-mount components - would need repair outlet to check / repair if even possible.

    Upgrading the plates on hairstraightners

Likely not, for the following reasons: The newer larger elements would draw higher current. If protection circuit of smaller elements detects a higher current or heat than it was designed for, it will presume there's a fault and open (if PTC / resettable switch), or blow (if fuse). If units are...

    Dell D600 Laptop Speaker

Hi James. It looks as if your photo is of a bracket, with CMOS battery attached. Is this a new-design slim speaker? Or connector to CMOS/speaker circuit? The laptop should have a small dynamic loudspeaker, usually oval, at corner of motherboard. My Googling showed normal small drivers.

Front-panel mounted USB and SD card reader PCB-sockets

Or you could go to a computer repair shop, and beg/buy one from an old stripped computer. Goes by various names: Fred, Jack John... :) USB interface panel, USB ports, Front user interface panel.....

    HP 400F AC voltmeter

Is it a panel meter? Might be that needle has bent from 'pinning'. Or plastic zero-cam may be worn or cam-pin broken.

Need Help Identify a Capacitor and a Resistor

Broken 5-band resistor value: Red band is on left nearest lead. Right Brown band is 1% not 2% which would be red. @73's de Ed has Rval correct at 2M2 220*(10^4) Comparing size with nearby components it's 1/8W rating. So a 2M2 1% 1/8W metallised (blue body) resistor. Wrapped thin copper strand...

    Troubleshoot an amplifier

Is amp/board old second hand? Many parts missing, broken off and whole PCB needs a good clean. Zooming in, looks like valve bases oxidized (whitish film). 2 HV caps' tops look like "possibly" blown (picture). (A) check caps (B) servisol all metal contacts/pins (C) wash dust off

    Basic speaker setup

Hi SetiYeti. Welcome to the fascinating hobby of electronics. If you have an electronics component supplier nearby, some keep small hand-books aimed at the hobbyist. Babani UK is one of the publishers, with booklets on 555 timer IC circuits, transistor circuits, video and hi-fi, loudspeakers &...

    LEDs 12 Volts?

Looks like 12V UB (Ultra-Bright) LED rope-light segments. Very similar to ones I bought recently. If 12V, no external resistor necessary as Rs built-in. I get 292 mA per segment at 11.97VDC. Multiply qty segments to calc total current. Or just connect them and check amperage. They use two common...

    Clothes dryer fault

A tried and tested (but also potentially hazardous) hack is to series the element with a high-wattage incandescent light bulb. Disconnect the earth/ground, so the element is no longer protected, connect a light bulb of say 150W-200W in series. While heating the element, the bulb's filament...

    Need help building a speaker.

By 'cylinder box' I gather you mean a short length of pipe, plastic jar or similar. As wise sage AG stated this will sound cr*ppy. A hollow tubular enclosure will produce a strong resonance 'honk' at a certain frequency. However, you can slightly improve response by loosely filling the enclosure...

    Nostalgia

Was lent a Sinclair ZX80 Spectrum by a neighbour/friend when he went away on business - my initiation to programming. Many years later I invested in a 386 Dell with Dos 6 and Win 3.11. Still have my electronics magazine collection from 70's+ of ETI, PE, Electronics Australia, etc. Many of these...

110VAC hair clipper on 220VAC help please

If you can't find this adapter at a hardware store, I bought mine at a travel agency (220V>110V 3.5A). The output of mine uses two flat pins (for a 110V fax machine). Of course, you must check that output pins are compatible with your clipper. The 60>50Hz frequency drop won't make much...
